Why does this site about GoDaddy alternatives exist? Well, I’ve had a hosting account with GoDaddy for several years, mostly just to play around with website ideas that I have. I often would use Joomla or WordPress as the platform for my websites. One problem I always seemed to run into was that my site would take forever to load i.e. 30 – 60 seconds or more! I know that 30 – 60 seconds doesn’t sound like a lot of time but trust me it is when it comes to web hosting. If your website is taking that long to load people will decide to go elsewhere and you’re going to lose customers.

I started to experiment with my site to try and speed it up thinking it was me. I tried deactivating plugins and changing themes. After not having much success I then started over from scratch installing WordPress with the default plugins and theme. That did help speed things up a little but not a lot. I then upgraded my hosting package to the next level hoping that would get me somewhere. After doing the upgrade things did seem to get better however, instead of the site being slow most of the time I started to notice it was now randomly slow. On top of that I was now paying more money and things weren’t much better. I contacted support to have them take a look at the issue more than once. The response I always got was “we don’t see any issues”. After that I started to look for a GoDaddy alternative. Below is a list of web hosting providers and the features that they offer.

In the end I chose HostGator as my GoDaddy alternative. In fact this website is hosted on the HostGator Baby plan. They host over 7,000,000 domains and have been around since 2002. They are well known and respected in the industry. After switching over to HostGator I’ve been extremely pleased with their speed and support.
